Luang Prabang (contd)
My chronology is a bit all over the place. These next couple of pics are still from Luang Prabang.
This is the black reclining Buddha in the largest Wat in Luang Prabang. By all accounts, a very rare thing. At this stage, I have to say, I'm getting slightly immune to Buddhas, temples and the like. They're all beautifully created and maintained but it gets to a stage that they all sorta blur into one.
On the way from North on the 2 day boat, we passed these caves. We came back to them a couple of days later. When a Buddha statue is broken, this is one of the places it is supposed to be kept. There were hundreds of statues in the caves in various states of disrepair. To get here, we had to take a 1 hour minibus ride and then a boat across the river.
Pic from inside one of the two riverside caves.
If you look closely enough, you can see a Buddha statue inside the mouth of this Lion.
We came across these two punters on our way back across the river.
While walking through one of the various temples on the grounds of the grand temple in Luang Prabang and looking at the the innumerable Buddhas on disply, we came across this completely out-of-place statue of a belly dancer. A picture had to be taken.
Some of the many broken statues in the upper riverside cave.
After 5 days in Luang Prabang, myself, the five Aussies, Gemma, Anna, Guiermo and some random Greek dude hire a minibus to take us to Vang Vieng. There were innumerable "comfort breaks" along the 6 hour journey and these next couple of photos were taken during one of the stops.
